INDIANAPOLIS (June 2, 2025) – Single-family building permits in Indiana climbed in April, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s latest data. 2,019 single-family permits were issued in April, a 20% increase over the 1,689 permits pulled in March 2025.

While April’s total is down 3% compared to April 2024 (2,073 permits), year-to-date figures remain consistent with last year. From January through April 2025, a total of 6,460 single-family permits have been issued, nearly identical to the 6,456 permits issued over the same period in 2024.

Indiana continues to lead the Midwest in new single-family housing growth, once again outpacing neighboring states Ohio (1,631), Michigan (1,553), Illinois (1,009), and Kentucky (874).

“These numbers reflect Indiana’s resilient housing market despite changing economic conditions,” said Rick Wajda, IBA CEO. “The strong month-over-month growth in April shows continued demand for new housing.”
