INDIANAPOLIS (September 16, 2024) – The U.S. Census Bureau recently released its statewide report on building permits for July 2024. According to the data, 1,687 single-family housing permits were issued, representing a 16% increase from the 1,453 permits pulled in July 2023.
Although the July 2024 figure shows a notable year-over-year improvement, permits are down by 12% compared to the previous month. In June 2024, 1,921 single-family permits were issued.
Despite the month-to-month decline, the overall trend for 2024 remains positive. Year-to-date numbers show a 22% increase in single-family permits compared to 2023. A total of 11,725 permits have been issued in the first seven months of 2024, up from 9,632 permits during the same period last year.
Rick Wajda, CEO of the Indiana Builders Association commented on the data, saying: “Despite a slight month-to-month dip, the 22% growth in single-family construction in 2024 reflects continued strong demand from consumers.”
